Alright, this is my last-ditch effort. If you still can’t hear it after this, I officially give up. Above is a file sent to me by Hubbit where he has edited relevant parts of the Purple Chick and remastered versions of SFF back to back to back to back. I think it’s easiest to hear when you just listen once, pause, and listen again. Otherwise the two really do start blending together and making me dizzy. But it’s useful for the fact that the two versions are directly lined up.
BUT. Don’t just listen, read below, from my husband, since I have been failing at saying what exactly I’m hearing. He also has tips on how to best hear it, which I also think work:
The way I actually nailed this was to balance all the sound via the left channel where it’s primarily drums and vocals. It also really helps to be listening with headphones. At the point between “going” and “to” there’s a pause in the drumming and here’s where it gets different. In the purplechick version there’s an extra drum hit right before John sings “to” and one right on “to” (where the cymbal crash is). In the 2009 remaster the hit right before the “to” is gone and the pause is a little longer in the drumming between “going” and “to” with the first hit after the pause occurring exactly as John sings “to”
And if you still don’t hear it … well, it’s agree to disagree time! Ha.
