A teacher (she’s literally a Beatles encyclopedia) of mine said that he quit because of George and his battle with cancer.

Yeah, I thought he had quit long before that. I thought George only quit once he was diagnosed, but I could be wrong. (I’ve got no idea when Ringo quit, though it’s my understanding that he has.) I can’t really think of ever seeing Paul with a cigarette past the Beatles days, though I might just be forgetting. I’ve always kind of assumed that he quit when he went all vegetarian and nature boy with Linda … though of course John & Yoko went macrobiotic but still smoked, so who knows. In any case, I’m fairly confident that Paul quit before the 90s. While certainly possible, I’d be quite surprised to learn otherwise.
