As per that whole New York Times Gift Guide for the POC in Your Life, why can’t gift guides be arranged by interest rather than identity? Gifts for Guys are always full of gadgets, for instance, whilst Gifts for Gals always suggest tools to incorporate into your beauty ritual.

Bath & Body gift baskets / box sets are something this gal has gotten countless times from people who think all chicks love lotions and potions, and they were always re-gifted to another woman who actually likes that stuff or sat rotting in my closet for years.

Not to mention some of us are allergic to that shit and will need to get rid of it as soon as fucking possible in order to endure as little misery as possible. I’M JUST SAYING. Don’t buy scented crap for people unless you know they like it.

My husband and I have been debating via text message about what vinyl record to buy for almost 2 hours now.

Unfortunately I still haven’t played All You Need Is Love, since it’s on limited exclusive with Xbox and I have a PS3. People thought it was going to come out for the other two consoles this week, but it didn’t, and it’s unclear when it will. BOO!

For the most part, I really like doing the string instruments on songs like She’s Leaving Home, I Am the Walrus, Golden Slumbers, etc. And I thought the sitar was what made it so fun to play Within You Without You, and am looking forward to it on Norwegian Wood. I’m with Harmonix on “the rule of fun” (they chart what’s most fun to play). The horns are definitely the weirdest, but I thought it worked on Carry That Weight, which is the only song I can remember doing it on. I know some people don’t like it though. How about you?

Have you downloaded the other albums yet?

YES! I think it’s definitely the best of the early albums, and there are so many great songs it. There are other singles I want (*cough*strawberryfields*cough*), but AHDN and Revolver are the other two full albums I really want them to do. (Obviously, I’d download anything they put out, but if I got my pick, I’d choose those two.)

And yes! I love Abbey Road. It’s a blast, though the vocals are hard. I’ve only played Sgt. Pepper’s once so far, since my husband and I have been sick ever since the release and unable to sing. :/ I’m hoping to be able to play again soon. But I loved it the first time, through. Within You Without You was especially fun, I thought.

I’m waiting for Rain to be a downloadable track…I love how George looked in the video. That needs to be a downloadable track! Ringo drums like a madman on that song.

SERIOUSLY. Rain is right up there with She Loves You and Help! for songs that damn well should have been on disc and will cause a mutiny if they’re not eventually available for DLC.

Trailer here! I expected everything to be at either Shea or Budokan, but it looks like they’ve actually created dreamscapes for a few songs, too!

By the way … am I having a totally blank moment, or isn’t Drive My Car performed at Budokan in the game, not Shea? But it’s at Shea in the trailer? Did they create a new scene for it? (And if I’m not being weird and forgetful, and they did do that, why the hell didn’t they make a dreamscape for I Want You (She’s So Heavy) with the Abbey Road download, so that there wasn’t such a jarring single-song departure from the studio when you’re playing the full album at once?)

In 1965 Klaus received a call from John Lennon asking him to design the cover of The Beatles’ next LP. Klaus had been out of the art scene for some time, playing bass in Paddy, Klaus & Gibson. And now he was being asked to design a record cover for the most famous band in history! Klaus accepted the challenge, and he spent the next couple of weeks coming up with different ideas for the cover. He had the idea that he wanted The Beatles’ hair to be a focus, and in contrast to what was being done by everyone else, he wanted to do a black and white cover. He tried different ideas, and eventually (from memory) he drew the four line drawings of John, Paul, George and Ringo, then placed photos in and around the drawings.

The Revolver cover was well received by The Beatles, George Martin, and Brian Epstein, who cried tears of joy upon seeing it. With Revolver, The Beatles’ music had taken a different direction. It was more psychedelic and less about love and relationships. This change in musical direction made Brian unsure of how the public would receive the new sound, and he believed that Klaus’s cover would be a bridge for that change and help people to accept the new direction. As it happened, at the 9th Annual Grammy Awards in 1966, Klaus was awarded the Grammy for Best Album Cover, Graphic Arts. It was the first time anyone had ever won for a graphic cover.

He drew them from memory? On three counts, that’s very impressive. On the other … well, seeing as how Klaus didn’t know him as well, it explains why Ringo looks comparably so little like himself! :)

Any record buffs out there?

If so, I’m looking for a record cleaning brush, and was wondering if you had any recommendations for good ones?

I’ve been cleaning my records before each play with a record cleaner I got at the record store and those Bags Unlimited cloths. But I also have trouble seeing the little gaps on the record for placing the needle in regular light, so I use a flashlight, and have noticed that way that the cloths aren’t getting all of the dust off (and even seem to be leaving a few of their own fibers behind). (For the record, we were originally going to get a brush — but the guy at the record store talked us out of it and said the cloths were better. :/)

Further, I’ve been playing my Double Fantasy LP a few times a week and have been noticing increased noise/static, pops, and even a slightly tinny sound with every play, and was wondering what the hell was going on and what I’m doing wrong. And needing a brush is what my google searches seem to indicate. That, and that I need to get a stylus cleaning kit, and that the alcohol and q-tip solution that someone told us, and sounded kind of dubious to me from the beginning (because little fuzzies have a way of coming off q-tips with regular use…), just isn’t going to cut it.

Which is way more information than you needed, probably! Unless, of course, you have further suggestions as to why my record might be sounding lower and lower quality each time. That would be helpful, too. But, mainly: what’s a good brush?

(Also, I’ve only had my turntable for a month, and have been going off of whatever info I could find, so be nice if I’m doing something incredibly ignorant :P)
